MRE heißt Meal ready to eat (Mahlzeit bereit zum Essen) und ist das US-Gegenstück zum EPA, allerdings qualitativ erbärmlich. Nur eine Mahlzeit und wenig anderes. Darunter auch eine Art Synthetikbrausepulver. Wegen ihrer miserablen Qualität heißen die MRE bei den GIs auch "Meal refused by enemy", Mahlzeit, die vom Feind verweigert wird.
