Musterland
Ein Musterland ist ein Land, das für Probleme, an denen andere noch herumdoktern, Lösungen verwirklicht hat. Besonders die skandinavischen Länder waren und sind Musterländer, vor allem, was die Sozialpolitik angeht. Die Schweiz ist das Musterland, was Volksabstimmungen angeht und die Niederlande, was die Freigabe weicher Drogen und den Umgang mit Homosexualität betrifft. Für die Franzosen sind wir ein Musterland, weil bei uns die Mülltrennung und Wiederverwertung halbwegs funktioniert, für die Spanier und Italiener, weil es bei uns ein halbwegs funktionierendes soziales Netz gibt.

Switzerland is the Musterland when it comes to referendums, and the Netherlands is one regarding the legalization of soft drugs and the treatment of homosexuality. For the French, we are a Musterland because waste separation and recycling work reasonably well here; for the Spanish and Italians, it is because we have a somewhat functioning social safety net.
